HISTORY OF THE CHURCH OF THE ASSUPTION CHOIR AND ORCHESTRA The Church of the Assumption Choir and Orchestra (“CACO” or “The Choir”) was formed shortly after the dedication of the Parish of the Catholic Church of the Assumption, Falomo in May 1960. The Choir was naturally small, given that the parish itself had only about a hundred parishioners at the time of the dedication. It however grew with the parish over the course of the following years and by the late eighties and early nineties had developed into a full choir, leading to the incorporation of an orchestra at the turn of the century. The Choir has over a hundred registered members, with about seventy singing regularly at masses. The choir covers the Sunday masses at the parish as well as other parish activities such as weekday masses, weddings, funerals, and other events. CACO is administered by an Executive Committee led by the Choirmaster, Mr. Noel Orji. CACO is renowned for beautiful sacred music throughout the Lagos Ecclesiastical Province and beyond, which over time has been blessed with voluntary talented parishioners who have been trained and have given of their time and talent, as well as music scholars in voice and instruments. The Choir has served as incubator for several great singers and musicians in Nigeria, the African continent and indeed the wider world. The Choir remains committed to the development of sacred music in Nigeria.
