Holy Eucharist
Sacrament of Holy Eucharist: Our Spiritual Nourishment
The Holy Eucharist is the source and summit of Christian life (CCC 1324). In this sacrament, Jesus Christ is truly, really, and substantially present—Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity—under the appearances of bread and wine.
The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass nourishes the faithful, uniting us more deeply to Christ and the Church (CCC 1322). The reserved Blessed Sacrament housed in the tabernacle sustains devotion and adoration outside Mass times.
Only Catholics in a state of grace may receive Communion worthily (CCC 1385). Proper disposition includes freedom from grave sin and adherence to the Eucharistic fast (CCC 1387).
The Symbols of The Sacrament of Holy Eucharist
Bread and Wine: Transformed into Christ’s Body and Blood (CCC 1413).
Chalice and Paten: Sacred vessels of the sacrifice (CCC 1416).
Altar: Table of sacrifice and communion (CCC 1182).
Tabernacle: Revered dwelling place of Christ (CCC 1379).
Preparation for First Holy Communion involves catechetical formation and spiritual readiness.
“From the Eucharist comes strength to live the Christian life and zeal to share that life with others” – Pope John Paul II
